2019 is coming to an end and Vietnam’s textile and garment industry is struggling to achieve its export target of US $ 40 billion.

And if the industry is to be believed, lot of garment companies do not have much orders for the first half of 2020.

An official from Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), who did not wish to be named, said orders have been moving fast to cheaper destinations and one such country is Africa.

A lot of apparel firms have said that they do not much orders for next year, with some of them even reporting a slump of 20 per cent in orders.

And it’s not just Africa! Orders from China, amidst the trade war, have been shifting to countries like Bangladesh and Cambodia.

As far as fibre is concerned, Vietnam is facing tough competition here too from countries like India and Indonesia.

It would interesting to see how the the first month of 2020 turns out for Vietnam’s garment and textile industry.
