As reported by Apparel Resources recently, the apparel imports of USA have touched US $ 81.59 billion during 2021 – that’s 27.36 per cent more than what it valued during 2020.
The country had already started witnessing normalcy in its apparel market but the major boost was seen during holiday season when the market was all positive and consumers were out on streets.
The advantage of this optimistic market sentiments was a not-to-miss string for the apparel exporters and the same has been resonated in the official data.
China continued to remain the top apparel shipper to the USA; however its dominance is fading now! The import of USA from China valued US $ 19.61 billion in 2021, as compared to US $ 15.15 billion in 2020 and US $ 24.91 billion in 2019.
China’s share has come down to 24 per cent in the US apparel market in 2021 from 29.76 per cent in 2019.
Vietnam, despite being stagnant for around 3 months in 2021 due to second wave of COVID-19, has managed to surpass its 2019 export value to USA.
The South East Asian country upped its shipment to USA by 14.33 per cent in 2021 to US $ 14.37 billion, and 6.21 per cent as compared to 2019 figures.
2021 can be said the best year for Bangladesh in terms of shipment values in the US market as it clocked US $ 7.14 billion export revenues in the year – that’s first time ever Bangladesh has crossed US $ 7 billion mark in the US apparel market.
As compared to 2019, Bangladesh noted 20.61 per cent growth, while growth noted over 2020 was 36.70 per cent.
Along with Vietnam and Bangladesh, India too managed to stay ahead of 2019 export values.
India shipped US $ 4.19 billion (up 38.92 per cent) worth of apparels to USA in 2021 as compared to US $ 4.05 billion in 2019.
