April 2020 saw Vietnam export 415 million face masks worth US $ 6.3 million to countries like US, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong. Now that’s a good number but is that enough?
More on this, Truong Van Cam, Deputy Chair, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) said that earning US $ 6.3 million is nothing compared to the annual earning of US $ 40 billion from country’s textile and garment industry.
Though the Government has helped face mask manufacturers by relaxing export terms and helping them get custom clearance easily, it has warned the face mask makers to focus on quality and not quantity to be a good face mask supplier.
The products to EU will need to fulfil CE standards, while those exported to US will have to satisfy FDA standards and so Vietnam really needs to focus on quality to compete with other countries that are making face masks.
Dinh Ngoc Long, an expert on CE standard certificates, said that in order to get CE certification, the face masks made in Vietnam need to meet 3 requirements, namely safety, health and eco-friendliness.
