US denim apparel imports are continuing to rise and, as per OTEXA, the imports touched US $ 308.18 million in January ’22. The imports have surged by around 22.46 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
This is the HIGHEST import figures of USA in denim apparel category, at least in last 15 years, as per an analysis done by Apparel Resources. The previous best figures were US $ 307.67 million that were witnessed in January ’19.
The growth was seen in the imports done from all major denim shippers. Bangladesh remained on top with US $ 62.03 million worth of denim garment exports to USA during the first month of 2022, noting 10 per cent Y-o-Y surge.
Mexico showed notable increase of 28.68 per cent in its denim apparel shipment to USA to clock US $ 53.89 million in January ’22.
Imports from Vietnam – the third top denim shipper to USA – reached US $ 37.25 million and grew by 49.19 per cent on yearly basis. Pakistan remained slightly behind Vietnam with US $ 34.52 million worth of denim apparels (up 32.76 per cent) in USA coming from this South Asian country.
China too noted decent growth of 17.13 per cent to ship US $ 33.31 million worth of denim garment exports to USA in January ’22.
India’s performance remained below par! The US imports of denim products from India were just US $ 4.10 million (up 19.17 per cent) and the country is far behind destinations such as Egypt, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Sri Lanka, Lesotho, Turkey and Madagascar.
