
According to OTEXA, Vietnam shipped US $ 372.34 million worth denim apparels to USA in 2019. The export value of Vietnam is around 10 per cent of the overall import by USA in denim category.
The share of Vietnam in total denim apparel import value of USA was just 7.68 per cent in 2018.
Markedly, USA tumbled in its denim apparel imports by 3.16 per cent in 2019 due to plunging Chinese shipment; Vietnam got a boost of 25.60 per cent.
Vietnam’s export in all 4 major denim apparel categories – Women & Girls (WG) jeans, Men & Boys (MB) jeans, skirts and jackets noted growth.
WG jeans emerged as the biggest category with export value of US $ 270.77 million (up 34.23 per cent), whereas the shipment of MB jeans valued at US $ 95.75 million, growing at 6.66 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Of the overall revenue that Vietnam clocked, WG jeans value contributed 72.72 per cent, which means Vietnam holds dominance in producing value-added jeans which is not a forte of Mexico – the top denim apparel exporter to USA.
Further, export of denim skirts from Vietnam to USA was up by 15.71 per cent to clock US $ 4.50 million revenue. Denim jacket too noted a surge of 25.47 per cent and earned US $ 1.31 million revenue.
Quantity-wise, WG jeans; MB jeans; skirts; and jackets experienced growth by 39.37 per cent; 3.65 per cent; 28.48 per cent and 29.21 per cent growth, respectively, which indicates Vietnam is getting increased orders from the US-based buyers.
