Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, a prominent developer of spider silk based fibers, recently attended the opening of its newly formed spider silk production subsidiary, Prodigy Textiles Co. Ltd.
The new facility, located in the Quang Nam province in Central Vietnam, is aimed to enhance the company’s growth capacity.
In association with its Vietnamese consultants, Kraig Biocraft reviewed several buildings and locations in Quang Nam before deciding the final place for the set up. The selection was based on the region’s accessibility to mulberry tree orchards and layout of the building in addition to being close to shipping ports and the company’s future campus.
Jon Rice, COO, Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, while expressing happiness on the opening of the subsidiary, said, that he was confident that the unit will prosper and grow fast. He further added that the building will be soon ready to receive its first shipment of silkworms.
The launching ceremony was attended by the local district and province officials in addition to leaders from farming cooperatives.
Kraig Biocraft is known for making a series of scientific breakthroughs in the area of spider silk technology with implications for the global textile industry. The company has also made a name in the field of genetic research and product development.
