The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) is working closely with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to help Vietnam’s garment and textile sector go green.
In its bid to achieve this objective, VITAS and WWF have started a project wherein they intend to focus on bettering energy sustainability and water management.
Both the organisations have decided to cooperate with several big and small players from the garment and textile industry to enhance river basin governance and thereby improve water quality.
The three-year project (2018-2020) aims at bringing a transformation in Vietnam’s textile and apparel sector, further bringing social and economic benefits to the nation.
Further on the same, Vu Duc Giang, Chairman, VITAS, said “Our main aim is to enhance water and energy efficiency in textile and garment sectors and ensure there are no ill-effects on environment.
Mark Goichot, WWF, said that WWF would like to see garment factories and industrial parks in Vietnam to work together and address risks and impact much beyond their factory doors.
Some of the stakeholders involved in the project are international brands with suppliers in Vietnam, garment factories and also development partners.
