Canada has crossed US $ 8 billion figure in its apparel import value during first 10-month period of 2021, noting 10.26 per cent yearly growth – as per official statistics.
Woven apparel segment continued remaining sluggish, dropping by 8.74 per cent, to value US $ 3.38 billion, while knitted apparel imports reached US $ 4.65 billion with a Y-o-Y increase of 29.93 per cent.
China has taken a beating in its apparel shipment to Canada and declined by 5.97 per cent in the mentioned period. Its share in the Canadian apparel import value has also reduced to 32.21 per cent in Jan.-Oct. ’21 period from 37.71 per cent in the same period of 2020.
While on one hand, China faced heat, on the other hand, all other major Asian apparel shippers to the North American country such as Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia have grown in their respective shipments.
Vietnam and Bangladesh have crossed US $ 1 billion export value to Canadian apparel market only in 10 months and they are expected to conclude the year on positive note, noting 25.51 per cent and 21.78 per cent Y-o-Y growth, respectively.
India too performed well, clocking US $ 235.69 million from its apparel shipment to Canada during the review period and noted 23.64 per cent yearly growth.
