Swimwear import of USA has gone up by 20.12 per cent on Y-o-Y basis value-wise in Jan.-May ’21 period, according to the data released by OTEXA.
US swimwear buyers sourced US $ 687.42 million worth of swim suits and related products during the first 5-month period of 2021.
However, as compared to Jan.-May ’19, which was a pre-COVID period, the imports are still down by 5.0 per cent.
Vietnam topped the tally with US $ 209.56 million worth of swimwear shipment to USA, growing 42.33 per cent on yearly basis.
The South-East Asian country surpassed China in 2021 whose shipment valued US $ 197.16 million in Jan.-May ’21 period and noted 8.28 per cent yearly growth.
Last year, in first five months, Vietnam could ship just US $ 147.24 million worth of swimwear products to USA, whereas China’s shipment was as high as US $ 182.10 million.
Indonesia grabbed third spot in the tally with US $ 78.60 million worth of swimwear exports to USA and it grew by an impressive 25.84 per cent on yearly note.
Sri Lanka and Cambodia, however, couldn’t capitalise on positive imports done by USA and declined by 6 per cent to US $ 27.85 million and 3.19 per cent to US $ 28.07 million, respectively.
Bangladesh gained momentum as it upped its swimwear shipment by 33.68 per cent to US $ 31.69 million to the US market and stayed ahead of Sri Lanka and Cambodia, unlike Jan.-May ’20 period.
