Canada’s apparel import continues to see growth on Y-o-Y basis, though marginally; however monthly decline is still there for the second consecutive time during February ’22!
The country imported US $ 695 million worth of apparels in February, noting 4 per cent yearly growth, while the shipment dropped by 8.10 per cent over January ’22.
Notably, Canadian apparel import values declined in January ’22 as well by 5.88 per cent as compared with December ’21 figures, making it two straight negative months for the exporters to Canada.
In top 5 tally, except China, all other exporting countries to Canada fell in their respective shipment to Canada on monthly basis.
Canadian imports from China reached US $ 219.17 million in Feb. ’22 and upped by 13.95 per cent over Feb. ’21, while the increase over Jan. ’22 was 2.08 per cent.
India’s yearly growth was the highest in top 5 tally – 49.55 per cent – as the import of Canada from India stood at US $ 27.89 million in February as compared to US $ 18.65 million in the same month of 2021.
Bangladesh noted yearly growth of 14.53 per cent in February ’22 to ship US $ 91.78 million worth of garments to Canada, while it remained dismal in its monthly performance as its shipment fell by 21.77 per cent over January ’21.
Vietnam declined significantly both on yearly basis and monthly basis by 15.18 per cent and 32.25 per cent, respectively, to ship US $ 71.10 million worth of apparels to Canada in February.
