Vietnam has become one of the major denim exporters to the USA lately. In the first 7 months of 2018, Vietnam exported denim apparels to its biggest market worth US $ 148.67 million, registering a growth of 37.84 per cent over the corresponding period of prior year.
It’s worth mentioning here that Vietnam booked highest percentage-wise growth in denim apparel exports among top ten exporters in this segment to the USA.
Further, in volume-terms, Vietnam upped its exports by 21.16 per cent and shipped 13,73,085 dozen of denim apparels in January to July period this year.
According to the latest figures released by OTEXA and analysed by Apparel Resources, Vietnam posted surge in 3 categories; skirts, Men & Boys (MB) jeans and Women & Girls (WG) jeans, of denim apparels, while jackets witnessed a downfall.
WG jeans contributed the most in overall exports value and stood at US $ 102.25 million (up 41.16%), while MB jeans export fetched US $ 43.29 million (up 26.45%). Both the categories posted growth in volume terms too as Vietnam shipped WG jeans to USA worth 956,969 dozens, whereas shipment quantity of MB jeans was 386,506 dozens during the period under review.
However, export of denim jackets fell to US $ 0.40 million (down 3.03%) this year from US $ 0.42 million from last year.
On the other hand, exports of denim skirts from Vietnam to USA escalated 269.41 per cent to hit US $ 2.71 million. The percentage-wise growth is massive though the export value is just 8.66 per cent to that of total import value of USA in this category. The data shows, there is a big market for Vietnam to capture, in skirts segment, which is happening gradually.
